Author of no fancy website or best-selling book, Steve Temes nevertheless has been trading stocks and options successfully for more than 20 years. Founder and managing director of Lincoln Capital, Steve Temes also has experience trading and hedging with S&P futures and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Exchange-traded fund or ETF trading was one of the major topics we discussed with him in Part 1 of our Big Saturday Interview for this week.

In Part 1, Steve Temes talks about his background as a trader, and how he looks for “event-driven catalysts” to reveal opportunities in the market. A trader who also makes sure that his trades are supported by technical analysis, Steve Temes insists that traders need to be flexible in their choice of trading strategies in order to become and remain successful as markets change. We talk about trading and hedging with stocks, options and ETFs, discussing the factors that he uses to determine when one vehicle is preferable to another.

In the second half of our conversation with Steve Temes, we talk about the current market and strategies that he and other traders can use to protect themselves from a new source of uncertainty in the markets – overt public intervention. Part 2 of our conversation with Steve Temes will be published next week.
